What Is K-Rend?
K-Rend is a brand of pre-blended render systems manufactured in the UK. The range includes base coat products, scratch render coats and decorative top coats, all designed to work together as part of a complete render system. K-Rend products are widely used by professional renderers across the UK and Ireland, and the brand is recognised for its consistency and durability.
K-Rend systems are through-colour — pigment is distributed throughout the mix, not just applied to the surface. This means that if the surface is chipped or scuffed, the underlying material is the same colour, making minor damage far less visible than it would be on a painted render.
K-Rend Product Types
The K-Rend range includes several products that are commonly used in residential and commercial render work:
K-Rend Silicone TC
Silicone TC is K-Rend's premium through-colour top coat. It contains silicone as a key ingredient, which gives the finished surface excellent water repellency while remaining breathable. It is available in a wide range of colours and is one of the most popular exterior render finishes used on properties across South Wales. The fine grain options give a smooth, modern appearance, while larger grain sizes produce a more textured effect.
K-Rend HP14
HP14 is a cementitious scratch render used as a base coat in K-Rend systems. It is applied to the substrate first to build up thickness and provide a sound, even surface for the decorative top coat to adhere to. HP14 is suitable for use over brick, block and other masonry substrates. It is reinforced with fibreglass mesh on areas such as window and door reveals where cracking is more likely to occur.
K-Rend Scratch Render
K-Rend scratch render is used to create a textured, scraped finish that is both decorative and durable. After the material is applied and allowed to stiffen, it is scratched with a serrated tool to reveal the aggregate beneath, creating a distinctive riven texture. Scratch render is popular on properties where a more traditional or rustic exterior appearance is desired.
Benefits of K-Rend Systems
- Through-colour: Pigment throughout the mix means chips and minor damage are much less visible than with a painted render finish.
- Weather resistant: K-Rend Silicone TC repels water effectively, helping to protect the building fabric from rain penetration.
- Breathable: The system allows water vapour to escape from within the wall, preventing moisture from becoming trapped behind the render.
- Low maintenance: Once applied and cured, K-Rend surfaces do not require painting and are resistant to biological growth.
- Consistent results: Because K-Rend is pre-blended in the factory, the colour and mix ratios are consistent from bag to bag, which helps achieve an even finish across the whole elevation.
- Suitable for various substrates: K-Rend systems can be applied over brick, block and EPS insulation board, making them suitable for a wide range of building types.
Why Use Render Group SW Ltd?
K-Rend products are only as good as the application. A poorly applied render system — whether due to incorrect preparation, wrong product selection or inadequate technique — will fail prematurely regardless of the quality of the materials. We take the time to prepare surfaces properly, select the right products for the substrate and conditions, and apply each coat to the correct thickness and coverage rate.
We have worked with K-Rend systems across a wide variety of properties in South Wales, from traditional stone cottages to modern new-build houses. This experience means we understand how the material behaves in different conditions and on different substrates.
Our Process
-
Site Survey
We assess the substrate, measure the areas to be rendered and identify any preparatory work needed — removal of old render, crack repairs, damp treatment or similar.
-
Written Quote
We provide a clear written quotation detailing exactly what will be done, what materials will be used and the total cost. No hidden extras.
-
Surface Preparation
The substrate is cleaned, defects repaired and a primer or bonding agent applied as appropriate for the specific K-Rend system and substrate type.
-
Base Coat (HP14)
HP14 base coat is applied to the required thickness and fibreglass mesh is embedded at vulnerable areas. The coat is allowed to cure before the next stage.
-
Top Coat Application
The decorative top coat — Silicone TC or scratch render — is applied and finished to the specified texture. We work wet-to-wet where possible to avoid visible joints.
-
Inspection & Handover
We carry out a final check of the finished work, clean up the site and talk you through the completed job before we leave.
Areas Served
We apply K-Rend systems across South Wales including Caerphilly, Cardiff, Newport, Pontypridd, Barry, Bridgend and Merthyr Tydfil. If you are unsure whether we cover your location, contact us and we will advise you.
